Be ready for messes and fun by smiling, talking, and playing games while eating
• Let baby lead
• Have fun, but be safe when letting your baby explore foods
• Help baby be a healthy eater
• Be patient as your child learns to eat
Baby uses all five senses at mealtime: touch, smell, sight, hearing and taste. If you decide what your baby eats, and they decide how much they eat, you are on the right track. Be ready for messes and fun by smiling, talking, and playing games while eating. Your baby will like different tastes and feels on different days – this is normal. Some foods can be unsafe – like honey, chewy or sticky foods, or hard foods. Let your baby “help” when feeding by using their fingers to touch, squish, mix and taste. This means they are learning.
